Be pure, be vigilant, behave

I enjoyed my recent trip back through the comic strips featuring “nemesis” from the 80s version of 2000AD. In my opinion the artwork of Kevin O’Neill was never bettered. His introduction to the collection (Nemesis book1), explains a little of how some of the more outlandish story lines came into existence and how the series was rooted in the music of the late 70s and early 80s. I had forgotten all about the gothic empire and that the ABC warriors made a comeback in this strip and that Nemesis himself had a link into that group of misfits. The characters are as well drawn as in any novel and the unfolding complexity of the various incarnations of Torquemada is enough to keep most people happy. These aren’t just comic strips they are art with a story. Almost to the level of graphic novel.
