I’ve read and reviewed work by camilla lackberg before and whilst her debut was good, one of the later novels was distinctly lacklustre. I was therefore deeply concerned that this might also be true for all her other work. This is not the case. “the hidden child” weaves a very tight and clever plot. At no point was I left bored by the narrative and I was kept guessing as long as Patrik and Erika were.
The character development is refined in this book and had none of the clumsy stereotypical feel of “the stonecutter”.
The murder of Erik Frankel acts as a catalyst to uncover a deep secret which has been kept buried since 1945. There is a delightful subplot involving a stray dog and a great deal to do with childbirth and babies!
