Jonah

Well this one took a while to read. There were many factors and some of then do not belong in a book blog. The prose is beautiful and although this has been translated from Icelandic, the care with which this has been done is palpable. The prose flows over the pages and the story drifts along in an almost ethereal way. I had to work a bit too hard to see the obvious parallel between the prelude and the rest of the book. In a way this is like the pre-title sequence of a Bond film which may or may not have any relevance but in this case it slightly over labours a point. There are some clearly flagged references to the story of Jonah and it is surely no accident that our protagonist is called Jonas. One of those books which will enrich your life but not necessarily give up all its secrets in one sitting.
